What is a Residential Carpenter?

Residential carpenters have been called the master builders, because they are the primary craft workers on homes, apartments, condominiums and the like. They assemble and erect the framework of residences; they build the partitions, install the flooring, and do much of the finish work, often staying on a particular job until its completion. The residential carpenter is an all-around carpenter who has experience in just about every aspect of residential construction.

 

How do I prepare?

 

Good work ethics

Good personal and social habits

Courses in math, science and communication skills

Develop reasoning and problem solving skills

Acquire related work experience

 

How do I qualify?

 

At least 17.5 years of age

Possess a high school diploma or GED (currently or within a year)

Being a carpenter is a career, NOT a job

Be physically able to do the work of the trade

Desire to be the best

 

What is the program specifics?

 

Length of the program - 3 years

Four hours of classroom instruction, 1 night a week, for 40 weeks each year

Starting pay - 55% of journeyman wage

We currently have a partnership with Owens Community College that will allow apprentices to receive college credits working toward a two-year associate degree
