Millwright Qualification Program

 

 

To meet the requirements of the Millwright Qualification Program, a member must meet one of the following requirements. **The goal of the Millwright Qualification Program is to verify the standard skills of our millwright members, not to prevent new members from joining our union. The testing provided in this program is only designed to identify individual training requirements.

Complete a Millwright Apprenticeship program recognized by the United Brotherhood of Carpenters.

Document 10,000 hours of millwright work experience prior to January 1, 1996.

Complete written and manipulative equivalency testing.

If a person holding a Qualification Millwright Card is released from three (3) jobs because of skill deficiencies, that member is required to retake all the Millwright Qualification tests. After the testing is complete, the member will receive the necessary retraining.

 

Test Scoring & Retesting

The written and the manipulative tests shall be separately scored and passing of each test is required. A score of 80% is required to pass each test. A score of less than 80% will require training and re-testing.

 

Written Tests:

  1. Mathematics

  2. Blueprint Reading/Layout

  3. Machinery Installation, Repair & Maintenance (including Rigging)

  4. Systems Components (Compressors, pumps, turbines, rotating equipment and conveyor systems of all types)

  5. General Millwright Knowledge (Terminology, general procedures, fasteners and materials)

  6. Tools (Hand, power and precision)

 

Manipulative Tests:

  1. Coupling Alignment

  2. Layout

 

Retesting:

Additional training and re-testing is required in any section where the journeyperson fails to receive a score of 80%. Retesting is not required for sections where the journeyperson received a score of 80% or above. Re-testing is not permitted until the recommended training is completed.
